When are walks scheduled?

The Washington Walks season of regularly-scheduled public walking tours runs April 1 through October 31.

Four walks (“Goodnight, Mr. Lincoln,” “In Fala’s Footsteps,” “Memorials by Moonlight,” and “The White House Un-Tour”) take place between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends only.

The holiday walk “A Nation’s Capital Christmas” takes place in December.

For a detailed list of walks go to All Tours.

What does it cost to take a tour?

One or two hour walk: $10 unless noted, age 3 and younger free

Three hour walk: $15 unless noted, age 3 and younger free

Bus tour: $30 adults, $15 age 12 and younger (younger than age 3 free)

Do I need a reservation?

No reservations are required for our walking tours. Simply show up! You can pay for your walk using cash or check when you arrive.   Bus tours, however, do require reservations.

How will I recognize the guide?

All Washington Walks guides wear a blue and green badge that displays the Washington Walks logo.

Do the walks conclude at the same place from which they start?

Sometimes, but not always. If the ending point is different than the starting point, your guide will point you in the direction of the nearest Metro station and/or provide instructions as to how to return to the original start point.

How long are the walks and how fast do we go?

Most walks last approximately two hours. We travel at a casual pace.

Do you offer walking tours that are suitable for children?

Yes! Children age 12 and younger would enjoy our kid-friendly walks: “In Fala’s Footsteps: the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial,” “The White House Un-Tour,” and “Goodnight, Mr. Lincoln.”

I am bringing an infant/toddler. Do I need to pay the walk fee for him or her?

No. Children age 3 and younger attend walks for free.

Are the walking and bus tours wheelchair and/or stroller accessible?

Yes. Most of our walking tours are accessible for both wheelchairs and strollers. Please notify us in advance if would like to use a wheelchair during one of our bus tours so we can ensure that we hire an accessible vehicle.

Are restrooms available on the walks?

No. Restrooms are not available during the walking tour. Be sure to use the facilities prior to arriving for the walk

Can I bring my dog?

Yes! Any leashed, well-behaved dog is welcome on our walking tours, but not our bus tours. Canine companions should be child friendly and not prone to barking. Remember to bring the necessary supplies to handle any "accidents!"

Are the walks offered only in English?

Yes. Washington Walks are only offered in English.

What happens if it rains?

Walks and bus tours take place rain or shine. Dress appropriately for the day's forecasted weather conditions. Remember to bring water, sunglasses and sunscreen on warm, sunny days.

What is a Washington Walkabout card?

A Washington Walkabout card allows you to take four walks and get the fifth for free. Each card is $40 (or $30 if you’re booking a walk ahead of time.) You can purchase a Walkabout card from any Washington Walks guide. Cards do not expire and can be used by one individual only.

After you’ve taken your five walks, return the card to Washington Walks and you’ll be eligible for the Washington Walks-a-Thon Award given at the end of the walking tour season.

Are gift certificates available?

Yes. For details, please contact us.
