Interpreted Walking Tours Added To 2007 Schedule
D.C.-based Washington Walks has announced that American
Sign Language interpreters will join seven different walking tours this
season in order to enable deaf and hard of hearing persons to participate in
the company’s popular excursions through the District of Columbia.
“We’ve received requests for ASL-interpreted walks through the years,” says
Washington Walks founder Carolyn Crouch, “and decided it was time to make
the interpreted walks a regular offering.” The presence of Gallaudet
University, the acclaimed school for the deaf and hard of hearing located in
Washington, D.C., was another motivator. “As far as we know, Washington
Walks is the first D.C. company to offer regular ASL-interpreted tours,”
observes Crouch.
