The Blossom Secrets Stroll
The annual cherry blossom display is guaranteed to dazzle your senses. But have
you ever wondered why the trees are planted along the Tidal Basin? Why cherry
trees? Whose idea were they anyway? Hear the stories and secrets behind the
delicate blossoms during a walking tour featuring not only cherry trees, but
also noteworthy arboreal cousins. Learn about the woman whose cherry tree vision
lives on today, a Japanese lantern older than the United States itself, and
where you can discover even more pink and white blooms. (Offered in conjunction
with the National Cherry Blossom Festival)
Led by Carolyn, Mary Anne and others to be announced.
IMPORTANT! Please note that this walking tour does not include a walk around the entire Tidal Basin area. (It is usually too crowded to bring a walking tour group around the Tidal Basin.) The walk concludes at the Tidal Basin, site of most of the famous Japanese cherry trees. Walk participants are welcome to walk the area on their own.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival®,
is DC’s signature springtime event. The 2010 Festival is March 27 – April 11, and features daily cultural performances, sporting events, arts & crafts, demonstrations and other special events. The National Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the 98th anniversary of the gift of the cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the citizens of the United States and Japan.
