Gain a new perspective on a familiar part of downtown Washington, D.C. during this walking tour that features outdoor artworks displayed along Connecticut Avenue, NW and hiding-in-plain-sight historic sites around Farragut Square.

Art Ave, an outdoor public art experience presented by the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID), includes illuminated sculptures that glow once daylight fades.

In addition to the artworks, this walk reveals how Farragut Square was once a wealthy residential enclave by sharing stories about:

  • Alexander Roby Shepherd, head of D.C.’s first territorial government and owner of a palatial K Street mansion

  • Vinni Ream, creator of the first major piece of public art created by a woman in the nation’s capital
  • The architects who designed two Farragut Square office buildings during an era when elegance in commercial real estate was prized

Plus the restauranteur who brought power dining to 1950s Washington!

The Golden Triangle BID extends from the front yard of the White House to Dupont Circle. The BID works to enhance the area’s economic vitality by improving public spaces and supporting a strong downtown community.
